Ok - finally, I am offering my two cents on Django. I had no problem with the excessive use of the N word. Sadly, it has become so normalized I don't even flinch when I hear it (even when the 'cool' white person says it). I use it often myself! I have no problem with the historical inaccuracies (everybody had on Ray Bans right!) I have no problem with the Hollywood drama of finally making slavery entertaining and funny (kinda sarcastic here). But I will tell you the problem and danger of Django....
This hyper masculine, hyper physical, cunning figure that Jamie Foxx' character portrays confirms for White America the ongoing sanctions of policing and punishing the
black male. Django outwitted and outsmarted the White man on several occasions. He even walked off happily into the sunset. With his Black female by his side (of course, in need of saving from the ongoing sexual violence ever present in her life), Django confirms why the Black male has always and will always be a threat to white values and white America. He's a beast that needs to be tamed; if he's not, he'll kill us all!!!
White folks were terrified of him (they didn't admit this!). This was not a comedy. This was nightmare on slave street for White people. From Willie lynch to Jim Crow to bill o Reilly and rush Limbaugh. The white man has been trying to figure out the beast from the dark continent for centuries. His quest to taming the beast continues.
In the words of Boris the Animal (my bad, just Boris): no prison can hold me!
